(Active Soil Depressurization) COMMERCIAL INSTALLATION These photos show a commercial building which required ASD but has a flat roof and installation of a exterior system was not preferred by the client. Simply, mount the fan on the roof. There is then no exhaust pipe, since the fan is already above the roof line. But how do we make it look acceptable. We have designed a housing to accommodate the fan. In this case we had to deal with only two areas of the building which tested high for radon. 1 suction pit per fan was all that was necessary. 3 inch PVC was extended vertically from the suction point location through the flat roof and connected right to the intake side of the fan, which was mounted inside the protective housing. The roof penetrations were handled by the roofing contractor who was providing the client with the warranty on the roof. The fan exhausts through the top of the housing and a 90 degree elbow was installed to avoid any objects from getting lodged in the exhaust. This was a school building and there are many children who like to throw things on the roof. This installation is perfect for such facilities because most maintenance can be performed from the outside with little to no disruption to the children or teachers. However this technique can be applied to all kinds of structures with similar features. |
